9 Things to Do Before Putting Your Home on the Market

Are you planning to sell your home this spring? It’s important to plan before you sell! Be sure to do these 10 things before you start the process!

1. Do some research into your local housing market.

Look at some websites like Zillow or Realtor.com for some insight into the value of your home. Find listings in your neighborhood to compare, and start figuring out the listing price you think is appropriate. We can help you with this along the way, as well.

2. Find a listing agent.

That’s where we come in! We have combined experience of 40 years in the real estate industry, and we are here to help you.

3. Declutter and clean your home or have it cleaned.

Impressing the people who come to see your home is very important, and a dirty home will not accomplish that!

4. Stock up on some light bulbs.

Showing your home means having lights turned on in every room of your home, so you’re likely to have to replace some light bulbs in the process.

5. Have a handyman come by and assess and fix any issues like leaky faucets, dings, or cracks in the walls.

6. Have your walls painted or do it yourself.

Freshly painted walls not only make your home brighter but more welcoming and comforting to buyers looking for a clean slate!

7. Have your home staged or do it yourself.

It’s been proven over and over again that a staged home sells faster than one that is not! Don’t forget the exterior, too. Plant some flowers, etc.

8. Hire a photographer to snap some high-quality photos.

Now that your home is in tip-top shape, it’s time to show it off! Listings with high-definition images always do better than ones without.

9. Remove family photos, etc.

While your home should still be welcoming and comfortable, it’s important to remove any kind of personalization so that people can picture themselves living there.
